Music has always been my passion. From my early years at school, I was always writing songs and playing music. This developed as I grew older into writing piano pieces and short scores for small orchestral groups and theatrical productions.
On my musical journey, there are a few stand out moments that I always remember. The first time my teacher explained the circle of 5ths, suddenly everything began to make sense, this was exciting. This enlightenment and excitement grew as I studied for my theory exams, yes I was that person who was excited about music theory! At the age of 15, I heard Shostakovich’s String Quartet No.7 at a live concert. I remember it like it was yesterday. Another door had just opened in my mind. I had found the world of 20th Century music and so started my love for modernist music, which lead me to study Music at University and eventually to some very detailed postgrad research and analysis on Boulez.
It is this excitement that I hope to share with my pupils. That excitement of learning and unlocking musical connections. Right from very early stages of learning an instrument, all the way through their musical journey.
My background and education is primarily classical, however I also teach jazz and popular music styles, and also song writing and composition. I was always saying yes to performance and composition experiences, which lead me to participate in a number of jazz bands, Musicals, shows, conducting orchestras, and beyond over the years.
Writing music, playing music, and teaching music. This is my passion.
